Diabetes
God desires us to reach a standard of perfection made possible for us by the gift of Christ. He calls upon us to make our choice on the right side, to connect with the heavenly agencies, to adopt principles that will restore in us the divine image (Counsels on Diet and Foods pg 16 #2). A failure to care for the living machinery is an insult to the creator (Counsels on Diet and Foods pg 16 #5). One reason why we do not enjoy more of the blessings of the Lord is, we do not heed the light which He has been
pleased to give us in regard to the laws of life and health (Counsels on Diet and Foods pg 16 #6). Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 1
Diabetes ...The Who, What, and Why?
Diabetes, the most common disorder of the endocrine (hormone) system, occurs when blood sugar levels in the body consistently stay above normal. It affects more than 26 million people in the U.S. alone. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar. Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin, resistance to insulin or both.
Three common types of diabetes are:
Type 1- Occurs because the insulin producing cells (beta cells) are destroyed by the immune system. People with this type
must use daily insulin injections. Type 1 usually occurs before the age of 20 but can occur any time.
Type 2- The body continues to make insulin but may decrease overtime. The insulin produced with type 2 is either not enough
or not recognized by the body. This becomes a problem because there is no insulin to carry glucose to the cells of the body. It is
also caused by obesity and a lack of exercise.
Gestational diabetes- The third type is high blood glucose that occurs during pregnancy because of the effects of hormone
changes on the bodies ability to use insulin. If untreated , it can cause complications to the mother and unborn child.
